Crossroads

So, we shot a film funded by the Commission on Population (POPCOM), tackling youth issues in the era of internet and social networking: early pregnancy, drugs, dealing with parents, among others. Starring Felix Roco, Joseph Bitangcol, Mercedes Cabral, Sue Prado, Aleera Montalla, Hannah dela Guerra, Natasha Cabrera, Johann Alcantara, Christian Rainier Veron and Zoe Sandejas.

Heard we'll be having a school launch and a theatre launch next week. POPCOM is not planning to release this in the commercial theatres, though. Here's the trailer:

Bida rito sina Edgar Allan Guzman bilang Intoy at Mercedes Cabral bilang Jenny.

Ang librong ito ay isa palang kulto.

Trailer - The Natural Phenomenon of Madness

Second film, baby! Three years passed since TYG was made, I'm back. Been a long time waiting and it's off to a good start. It will compete in the NETPAC section of Cinemalaya 2011. It will have three screenings, two at Greenbelt 3 and its gala at CCP.

I miss the feeling of watching my film on the big screen. It's an accomplishment and a validation, something that reminds me to give myself a pat on the back.

Here's the trailer.

MADNESS schedule:

17 July/Sun 1:30PM Greenbelt 3 - Cinema 3

21 July/Thu 9:00PM Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theatre)

23 July/Sat 9:00PM Greenbelt 3 - Cinema 5 (talkback)

Unfortunately, I don't have any idea how much the tickets will be. See you there!

Hi, crush

Black Madness

Two years after she was raped, a woman agrees to meet with her rapist in the beautiful ruins of Intramuros. As they have the same blood type, her rapist asks her to donate blood for his operation claiming this will lengthen his life and will give him ample time to seek redemption. The woman refuses to do so as she rediscovers she is still a victim of unrequited love towards her rapist. Told in two separate perspectives, the story revolves around how the woman and man pick the pieces of their broken lives after the rape, meeting every so often at places that remind them of their past. They are confronted by the fact that they are both victims of each other: THE WOMAN struggles with loving no one but the man; THE MAN, struggles with his guilt knowing he can't love the woman the way she wants him to.

Kailangan nang tapusin. Kailangan nang gumawa ng trailer. Kailangan nang ayusin. Malakas ang kutob ko sa kabaliwang ito.

White Madness

After three years, nakagawa na uli ako ng sariling pelikula. Eksayted. Minimal at walang arte. Itim at puti. Parang unrequited love.

Ikaw, Siya at ang Patlang na Walang Guhit

"Psst!"

Not so gloomy Sunday

"It Must Have Been Love" ang pinapatugtog sa radyo nung araw na 'yun. Naaalala ko ang sabi ng kaibigan ko, 'that song will never be the same again'.

"Teka, anong relasyon?"

Mahaba-habang usapan ito.

SEQ. 26.     EXT. PUBLIC PLAYGROUND. DAY.

The woman is on the swing, doing the origami fortune teller when the man arrives. She plays with it (Adlib).

WOMAN
Pinapatawad na kita.

The MAN seems relieved. The woman takes out the check from her bag.

WOMAN

MAN

WOMAN
Death will both set us free.

MAN
How can I change your mind?

WOMAN
Mahalin mo ako.

The man becomes bewildered. The woman holds the man’s hand, attempts to kiss him but the MAN starts to leave.

Bantayan Festival

Bantayan Festival, now on its 9th year, is an annual celebration in Guimbal, Iloilo to pay homage to the heroism of Christian natives of Guimbal who fought against the Moros who frequently attacked and captured natives then sold them as slaves in Kolambogan, Mindanao. During the 17th century, the natives thought of securing their area for defense and built bantayans or watchtowers originally made of bamboo and were later built out of huge blocks of stones. Today, three bantayan structures still exist in the area.

I was invited by good friend Ray Gibraltar to mentor and judge in their Indie Film Festival, part of the Bantayan Festival celebration. This indie festival, a brainchild of then Guimbal Mayor and now Iloilo Vice-Governor Richard Garin, aims to promote their municipality's talents as they make films with Guimbalanon filmmakers, staff, actors and must use the Karay-a dialect.

It was a fun stay in Guimbal with fellow filmmaker EJ Salcedo, director of Third World Happy starring Sam Milby (which will be exhibiting at the Jeonju International Film Festival this May) who also mentored Directing and Production Design for the "kids".

Some pictures of the Tribal Dance competition featuring 33 baranggays in the Municipality divided into 9 tribes.

'BROD' Official Trailer

Official trailer of the first film I line produced for my own outfit, The Grit Project. It premiered at the 12th Cinemanila International Film Festival last December 8, competing in the Digital Lokal category. Starring Kenjie Garcia (Ang Lihim ni Antonio), Ardie Bascara (formerly Basti Romero of Santuaryo), renowned theatre actress Marife Necesito (Mammoth), Xeno Alejandro (Roxxxanne), Jess Mendoza (Ben & Sam).

Upcoming indie actors Nick Guila (theatre actor, Orosman at Zafira), Patrick Esteban (Hinala), Paul Jake Paule (theatre actor, 2010 Aliw awardee), Mehdi Gohlami (tv, All about Adam) complete the ensemble of cast, directed by award-winning director Ray Defante Gibraltar (Timawa at Delgado, Wanted: Border). Being a married heterosexual, he expressed his interest in directing a gay love story so I opened up the possibility of me producing a project about gays in the fraternity.

I think this film came out pretty well. I must say, Palanca-winner John Teodoro's poetry made the film interesting. With haunting music by Monet Silvestre. Yeah, famed mentor in Pinoy Dream Academy, I had goosebumps when I finished watching the film. Seriously. And this is his first full-length, believe it or not. I'm proud of this film.

'BROD' will be shown in Manila theatres on February 16, 2011, a post-Valentine treat for gays and straights alike. Trust me, this one transcends beyond a gay love story. Love is bittersweet, eh?

We were hungry like that

Taken on January 17, 2011, past midnight.

While finalizing the edit of "Señorita", a film I was working on for more than three months. Significantly, hunger bugged me at a time I decided I feel like I'm getting fat and should start losing weight. And what a way to start it with junk food at midnight.

Hunger makes me cranky and discipline is boring.

Hindi ito liham ng pag-ibig

"Please give me a chance to love you, too."

Parang teenager na namumukadkad, nababalisa at nagkakataghiyawat. Tumatak nga ang pick-up line mo.
